Nectar Double Up: What is It And How Can You Use It?

Nectar Double Up

Sainsbury’s Nectar ‘double-up’ event is coming back this year as well. This will allow all the customers to double the value of the Nectar points that they can spend in the store. If you shop at Sainsbury’s frequently, you will greatly benefit by reading on to find out more about the nectar Double Up coming back this year. Up to 10,000 Nectar points (£50) can be doubled, giving you up to £100 to spend in store. Let’s get started.

Nectar Double Up: All You Need to Know

Nectar has been running double-up promos for several years now. This allows you to double the amount of points you can spend in Sainsbury’s for buying items in certain categories like electrical appliances, homeware and clothing.

When is the Nectar Double Up event?

The Nectar Double Up event is usually held during the month of November every year. You are allowed to exchange your “Double Up” points for double up points in October.

Here’s how the nectar Double Up event unfolded in 2020:

  • You had the option to swap points for vouchers at Nectar.com only, once between Wednesday, 28th October and Tuesday, 3rd November.

  • After that window closed, another window to exchange Nectar points for vouchers also opened up. This was done using the Nectar app (available for both android and iPhone). The window for this was between Wednesday, 11th November and Tuesday, 17th November. The points could be exchanged as often as you liked via the app and they appeared as digital double-up vouchers in your saved offers.

  • The Nectar Double Up vouchers could be used in large Sainsbury stores between 11th and 17th  November. There was no option to use these vouchers online.

What are Nectar points?

Nectar is the name of Sainsbury’s loyalty scheme which is meant to reward customers for shopping regularly at the supermarket. You can also collect Nectar points when spending at other retailers including Argos, Asos and eBay, and when shopping at certain retailers via the Nectar website. Shoppers currently earn one Nectar point per £1 spent at Sainsbury’s, and when redeemed in store, each Nectar point is usually worth 0.5p – so 1,000 points equals £5. If you exchange your points via the Nectar app/website, you can get more in return for them. You can use those points for financing your days out, entertainment and restaurants.

How many points can I swap for vouchers?

You can exchange up to 10,000 points in denominations of 1,000 points, so 2,000 points would equal £20, rather than the usual £10. However, customers need at least 1,000 points to participate.

What can the points be exchanged on?

You can exchange points in 11 categories:

  • Cosmetics
  • Electricals
  • Entertainment
  • Fragrance
  • Gifting
  • Homeware
  • Seasonal
  • Skincare
  • Taste the Difference wine, champagne, sherry and port
  • Toys
  • Tu Clothing

Where can I spend the Nectar Double Up vouchers?

Double-up vouchers can only be spent in larger stores, by scanning them at the till when you shop. Nectar Double Up vouchers are not available for online purchases, or for paying at Sainsbury’s Locals, Centrals, petrol stations, concessions, Argos or Argos at Sainsbury’s.

Can I give my Nectar Double Up voucher to someone else?

No, all Nectar Double Up vouchers are non-refundable and non-transferable. You must ensure that you spend in the 11 categories before exchanging.

Can I get more Nectar points when I pay using my Double Up voucher?

No, it’s not possible for you to earn Nectar points on any purchases made using Nectar Double Up vouchers.

Can I use my Nectar Double Up voucher for multiple transactions?

No, every Nectar Double Up voucher can only be spent on one transaction. But if you have more than one voucher, you can choose to spend them over more than one shop.

What happens if I lose my voucher?

Vouchers are non-refundable, so if you lose a paper voucher there’s no way to recover your points. You must keep them safely.

In case you happen to have digital vouchers on your Nectar app, they will stay ready to use during the double up promo period in November.

Can I buy items worth more than I have in vouchers?

Yes. If your item is worth more than the value of your voucher, you can pay the rest in cash or by card. Alternatively, you can use any Nectar points you have remaining on your card at the rate of £5 equals 1,000 points to pay the difference. You must have a minimum of £2.50 worth of points before you can spend them.

Can I get change from Nectar double-up vouchers?

There are two major distinctions here. If the difference between the value of your Nectar Double Up voucher and your choice of item is more than 5p, you will need to buy other items included in the double-up for the full value of the Nectar voucher to be spent in one transaction.
In case the difference is 5p or lower, Sainsbury’s will just deduct it from your final shopping bill. The store might also give it back to you as change in case you don’t buy anything else.

Can I return an item bought using my Nectar Double Up voucher?

In case you buy something using your Nectar Double Up voucher and don’t want to use it anymore, you can return it as long as you have the proof of purchase and the item is in its original composition. This exchange/return falls in line with Sainsbury’s usual returns policy and you can only do it within 30 days of purchase.
