Who Is Enzo Fernández? Will He Go To Real Madrid or Liverpool?

Brilliant in the World Cup with Argentina, Enzo Fernandez logically attracts the greed of many leaders. Especially that of Liverpool and Real Madrid. With his amazing goal against Mexico, Enzo Fernández is standing out this season, not only in Benfica but also in the World Cup with Argentina. The Argentine midfielder is one of the revelations of the season and has aroused the interest of top football clubs. Especially since November 26, 2022, when he scored his first goal with Argentina against Mexico with a superb shot curled into the top right corner following a pass from Lionel Messi.

Enzo Fernández To Go To Liverpool: Here’s The Latest About The Midfielder

From S.L Benfica to possible Real Madrid transfer:

High-level performances, both in the Portuguese league and in the Champions League with Benfica, have earned him a ticket to Qatar, and as an important figure for the Argentina national team.

The former River Plate player, who was transferred from the millionaires to Lisbon’s S.L Benfica for around 12 million last summer, has seen his price revalued by 20 million, and has a termination clause of 120 million with the incarnates, in addition to a contract up to 2027, although the release price could be around between 85 and 95 million, as indicated in Portugal.

In addition to that, Portuguese sources state that Real Madrid would have already contacted the agents of the 21-year-old Argentine to probe the possible signing, which would undoubtedly prop up a midfield for many years, along with Camavinga (20), Tchouameni (22), and the older Valverde (24).

However, Enzo Fernandez seems to be closing in on Liverpool:

According to ‘The Mirror’, Liverpool FC have already reached an agreement in principle with Enzo Fernandez for a possible transfer.

Benfica, for its part, has no intention of selling off its jewel, which has a release clause set at 120 million euros.

Fernandez, who came to the Lisbon club this summer from River Plate is under contract until June 2027. Suffice to say that whichever team wants to hire his services will have to break the piggy bank.

Arriving last summer in Portugal from his native country, Argentina, the 21-year-old midfielder literally exploded in the eyes of Europe in just 13 games played. Better still, the whole world saw his talent. A small nugget from the Argentina national football team since the start of the World Cup, he was bound to attract the attention of the big clubs. And according to the Argentine and English media, it seems that he has already found his future club.

Enzo Fernandez in Liverpool from June 2023?

If there are still many details to be settled between the two clubs, the way seems already open for Liverpool. With the player’s approval, negotiations will probably be easier to conduct. For now, the Argentine press reveals that a pre-agreement has been signed between Liverpool and Benfica. He shouldn’t miss much before the two clubs formalize a possible departure – and therefore an arrival – of Enzo Fernandez.

And in this little game, Liverpool seems to have won against big competitors. In England, Manchester United and Manchester City had both pushed hard on their side to try to recover the player in vain. But in the meantime, Liverpool can be delighted to have recovered such a midfielder.

Youngest Argentinian to score in the World Cup since Messi:

By scoring the 2-0 goal against Mexico with a fabulous curling shot, Enzo Fernandez became the youngest Albiceleste player to score in the World Cup since Messi in 2006.

Enzo Fernandez (the Barcelona -linked defensive midfielder) scored Argentina’s second goal of the night and earned a nice wink for the one who published in 2016 on Facebook a very nice message for his idol, who had just announced his international retirement, we will explain this below.

His moving letter to Messi from 6 years ago went viral:

6 years ago, the 21-year-old wrote an emotional letter asking Leo to return to the national team following the latter’s decision to retire. This letter is going viral on social media.

“How are we going to convince you? If we [Argentina] are disastrous.

How are we going to convince you? We’ve never had 1% of the pressure you have on your shoulders. You wake up in the morning, you look in the mirror and you know a crowd of over 40 million wants you to do the perfect thing and it’s been ridiculously enforced that they can demand it.

“How are we going to convince you? If we don’t understand that you are a human being, a person of incomparable talent, the best player on the planet, but a person after all.

“How are we going to convince you?” If we don’t stop for a moment to realize that you are not responsible for the anger that defeat causes us, which often has more to do with our own frustrations reflected there in the mirror and wondering if we are demanding from ourselves 1% of what we demand from this guy we don’t even know.

“Do what you want, Lionel, but please remember to stay. Stay in a world of ridiculous pressures and have fun because they manage to get the most noble thing out of the game, having fun.

“Seeing you play with light blue and white is the greatest pride in the world. Play for fun, because when you’re having fun, you have no idea how much you’re having fun with us. Thank you and forgive us.”

Messi retired from international football in 2016 after losing the Copa America final against Chile. A few months later, Leo announced that he had reversed his decision due to the excessive love he had for wearing the Argentine shirt. Who knows, maybe Enzo’s touching letter partly contributed to Leo’s crucial decision to return.

Final thoughts on Enzo Fernández’s career and future:

At 21, the midfielder demonstrates that his career as a central midfielder at Benfica Lisbon has still made a good mark by paying 10 million this summer.

If we look at his past transfer we see that the former sporting director of Barça, Ramon Planes, wanted to hire him in 2021. The Catalan national team continued to follow him, but it was eventually Benfica who inserted a clause at 120 million euros to poach him.

He will continue to finish his five-year contract (until 2027).

Liverpool is on the spot too, and if Fernandez continues to sign such rises in the game with the Argentinian national team, it will not be surprising that other clubs will want him more.

At River Plate, Fernandez struggled to make the leap between the B and A sides, so he was loaned out to lowly Defense and Justice in 2020-21, only to return transformed. With the Red and Whites, in 2021-22, he scored ten goals and seven assists. A short season and then he goes to Portugal.

He received his first selection in November 2021 when he was called up for the first time with the Argentina national team by coach Lionel Scaloni. Today in 2022, just 2 days before the World Cup finals against France, the same weight he described in his letter to Messi, is upon Enzo Fernandez’s shoulder as well to bring the trophy home.
