About Thomas Partey

The youth program at Odometah included Thomas Partey. In 2012, he entered into his first professional deal with Atletico Madrid. On March 10th, 2013, he was initially called to the initial lineup. Sadly, he was just utilized as a stand-in there. Later, the team contracted him to Mallorca in July. In an 0-4 loss against Sabadell, he rose to fame there. Partey then made a loan move to La Liga team Almeria. He made his first appearance there on August 23, 2014. Espanyol and we were able to draw 1-1 in the game. Football Career

Thomas arrived from the Odometah FC of his neighbourhood’s youth division. In 2011, he signed a contract with Atlético Madrid, but a year later, he was sent to the reserves. On March 10, 2013, Thomas was promoted to the starting team for the game against Real Sociedad. However, he sat out of the final 0-1 home defeat. On July 12, Thomas was loaned to RCD Mallorca, a team that had recently been relegated to the second division. In his debut game as a professional, he played CE Sabadell. Thomas made a temporary move to join La Liga team UD Almera on July 27, 2014.

On August 23, he started his first game in the tournament, a 1-1 home tie with RCD Espanyol. On April 11, 2015, Thomas scored his debut goals in the top division of Spanish football, scoring a brace in a 3-0 home victory over Granada CF. On November 28, 2015, he completed his first-team Atleti debut after taking Luciano Vietto’s place in a 1-0 victory over Espanyol at home. He earned his first goal this season for the team on January 2 of the next season, but it came only in a home win over Levante UD.

Thomas replaced Koke in the 116th minute of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on May 28 as his team lost on penalties. Thomas approved a contract extension with Atleti on Feb 14, 2017, extending it until 2022. He became the first African ever to score for Atlético in the Champs League on October 31 when he equalised against FK Qarabag at home in a 1-1 draw and scored their first European goal.

He received a new deal on March 1 last year that will extend until 2023 after putting out great efforts for the squad. In the last two minutes of the 2018 UEFA League Cup Final, a 3-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille, he entered the game on May 16. On September 1, 2019, Thomas began the game as a late substitute and scored the game-winning goal in the last seconds as Atlético rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Eibar 3-2. Four weeks later, he earned a 100th La Liga appearance for Los Rojiblancos, and in the 0-0 draw with Real Madrid as in Madrid Derby, he was named the game’s more valuable player. 

Before a 2017 Africa Cup at Nations qualifying match against Mauritius, manager Avram Grant called up Thomas for the first season to the Ghana national squad in May 2016. On June 5, he made his debut, taking Frank Acheampong’s place for the closing 11 minutes of a 2-0 victory away from home that guaranteed the Black Stars’ spot in the championship. Thomas’s first hat-trick in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Congo on September 5, 2017, was part of a 5-1 victory.

Thomas was selected to be part of Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt. He scored in the Black Stars’ 2-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau in their final group match to help them finish first. On July 8, he made the winning shot in the final penalty shootout against Tunisia, although his team was eliminated.

International Career 

Thomas earned his international debut for Ghana in 2016 when the team management called him up for the match against Mauritius in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying round. On June 5, 2017, he took Frank Acheampong’s place for the remaining 11 minutes of both the 2-0 defeating game. With the victory, his club won the division. On Jul 8, 2019, Tunisia played in the round of 16, and he scored in the ensuing penalty shootout, but his team was disqualified. He now serves as the vice-captain of the Ghanaian national football team, and he will be anticipated to captain his squad during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
