The Biggest Horse Racing Thrills of 2022

horse racing

The UK has long been the hotspot for prestigious horse racing events – some of them even date back as far as the 1700s. So, if you are hoping to watch horse racing for the first time, it’s not a bad place to start your new adventure – especially if you like sports betting. Here’s a selection of the best events.

Horse racing is an exciting sport to watch, whether you attend the racetracks as a spectator or watch it on your TV at home. With skilled jockeys riding magnificent horses that each have their own unique trademarks and tempers, it’s a sport that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Research conducted by the television platform Freeview found that equestrian sports can be more tender to watch than football. Want to give it a go?

Royal Ascot

The Royal Ascot is an annual horse racing competition held in England each year in June. As the name suggests, the royal family has a long-held tradition of attending the tournament and you will see plenty of fancy hats and colorful garments if you decide to go. It’s also one of the biggest sports betting events. Each year, many spectators will bet on a horse for a bit of a laugh without doing their homework, which means you could reap great rewards by being prepared. Cheltenham Festival

If one day isn’t enough for you, then Cheltenham invites you to four days of thrilling horse racing from 15 to 18 March. Watch as the best jockeys, trainers, and horses gather for fourteen extraordinary races that spectators can bet on as they sip their drinks in the fresh outdoors. Last year, there was a lot of excitement over the win of the Irish mare, Honeysuckle. Will she do it again this year? Or will we see a new surprise? There is only one way of finding out.

Epsom Derby Festival

Between 3 and 4 June, Epsom Downs transforms as horse lovers and curious first timers attend two days of racing stylishly. With views of London, green, picturesque surroundings, and the ability to bet on horses and results, it’s bound to be fun. Watch it at home, take the train down for the day or book a getaway and combine horse racing with a nice countryside break. A different kind of travel experience.

Grand National (Aintree)

This three-day horse racing event is held at the famous Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool. Here, horses must overcome numerous hurdles and obstacles that make it a compelling event to witness. Because of Covid, the last event was virtual only, but when the competition takes place this year between 7th April and 9th April, it’s likely to be with rows full of cheering spectators. And if you can’t get tickets to see it in person, then you simply join the 500 million viewers who tune in to watch it each year from home.
