You can deposit your round pound coins at most high street banks across the United Kingdom. They can also be given away for charity. However, before you deposit your old pound coins back, it’s worth taking a look at the incredible prices that some of them have fetched in the secondary market. Some of the ‘round pound’ coins were issued in limited numbers, turning them into collectors’ items. Some rare pound coins have sold for as high as £16 on eBay. However, depending on their circulation numbers, some rare pound coins can fetch an even higher price.

1. Scotland (2014) – £2

This rare pound coin was circulated by the Royal Mint in 2014. A total of 5,185,000 were circulated. It features a thistle and Scotland’s floral emblem.

While a £2 selling price might not sound very tempting, don’t forget, it’s still twice the face value of the actual coin.

2. Ireland (2014) – £2.99

This rare pound coin was circulated by the Royal Mint in 2014. A total of 5,780,000 were circulated. It features a lucky shamrock and Ireland’s floral emblem.

At £2.99, this coin sold for nearly three times its face value.

3. Royal Arms (2008) – £3.20

While a lot of round pound coins featuring the Royal Arms of the UK have been released by the Royal Mint, it’s the 2008 issues version which fetches the highest price in the secondary market. Only 3,910,000 of these rare pound coins were circulated across the United Kingdom.

At £3.20, this rare pound coin was sold for over three times its face value on eBay.

4. London (2010) – £4

This rare pound coin was circulated by the Royal Mint in 2010. A total of just 2,635,000 were circulated across the United Kingdom. It features the English flag at the centre and some iconic British imagery (denoting the four capital cities of the United Kingdom: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Belfast).

At £4, it sold at four times its face value on eBay.

5. Cardiff (2011) – £5.55

This rare pound coin was circulated by the Royal Mint in 2011. A total of just 1,615,000 were circulated across the United Kingdom. It features a Welsh dragon at the centre and some iconic British imagery (denoting the four capital cities of the United Kingdom: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Belfast).

At £5.55, it sold at over five times its face value on eBay.

6. Edinburgh (2011) – £16

This rare pound coin was circulated by the Royal Mint in 2011. A total of just 935,000 were circulated across the United Kingdom. It features a Scottish castke at the centre and some iconic British imagery (denoting the four capital cities of the United Kingdom: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Belfast).

Since fewer than one million of these coins were circulated, it’s by far the rarest among the round pound coins.
